Default hard start or no start

09 KLX just started doing this.

Bike cold choke on, you have to crank 20-30 seconds and play with the throttle to get it to start. Used to be choke on crank 2-3 second and it ran. Once started and left on choke it idles up then slowly back down until it dies. Then even harder to get started after that.

Pulled the carb and cleaned it today, Started right up and idled good with choke on. Pushed in coke and bike died. Now it will not even start. Laid the bike over to drain carb and still nothing.

When I did get it to run and warm up and idle, the bike ran as it should just doesn't want to start easily anymore. Plug is good, gas is good, carb was clean. Any ideas?

I've had similar problems, and I'm not sure why (although my bike is a commuter and I don't really know much about bikes). It takes FOREVER to warm up and if I don't warm it up right, it dies on stop signs. I added some fuel addititve that cleaned the fuel line/carb, which helped a little, but it still needs to warm up longer than usual. From another thread I just posted, I should clean the air filter and maybe adjust the valve.

FYI my miles is at 16k right now

Try tapping lightly on side of carb, the float may just be struck.

Got it working. The needle was stuck, washers came free and bound it up.

Fuel needle.

Starts like it should now. But also still not 100%. If I let it die before it gets warm, it will not start again with or without choke. Have to lay it over drain the carb. Then it starts up no problem with choke on. Its as if it is still flooding it self, but wouldn't it do it all the time?

Otherwise it runs great. Starts right up when warm.

Still having issues. No start this morning. Fuel was shut off and ran until it died. Acted like it was flooded again. No time to look at it as I was on my way to work.

If mine doesnt start in the first few seconds of cranking, i drain carb bowl, let it fill and then it fires right up.
