Default Front sprocket change by yourself Tip.

Just wanted to share a Tip as I have learned many here myself. This tip is how I loosened my CS by hand. As many of us know these sprocket nuts are on @ 92.2 FT lbs and can be very hard to remove. Holding just the brake is just not enough as the manual thinks.

What I did was take a landscape timber (or a 2x4) and place it in front of the tire but over the swing arm. Be careful not to put it over your brake line. I removed the inner mud flap and chain guard also. Take a ratchet strap and wrap it around the tire and wood. Tighten it up and your have now locked the tire. After you have flattened the washer lean over the bike from the right side and pull up on your long breaker bar. Mine was tight but this way it loosened right up.

Hope this helps!

I was thinking it was going to come down to that but this worked great.

Probley no issue in neutral, but didn't like the thought of the vibration to the tranny.

1/2in breaker bar smacked with a shorty 3lb sledge on the end of the handle might work too. Good advice OP.........make sure the socket [impact is best] is square to the nut and firmly held in place with one hand. It's the shock and sudden force that loosens it up.

Good idea for those without an impact wrench.

Yea a lot of folks don't have an air compressor, or a electric impact 1/2in. Some times you make due.

Any number of ways, never hurts to see another. I do have access to impact, but hand tighten. I am sitting here thinking how I do it, using the brake with the bike in gear, but I just don't remember. I think I put my right foot on the brake, lean over to the left side, and tighten the nut.

FWIW, the rattle of an impact on the gear box is negligible compared to the general pounding it gets in its mechanical life. The impact driver has more fragile parts than those gears.
