Default Failed cam chain tensioner already?

I developed a ticking noise from the motor that is getting louder every couple of rides and gets louder the more the engine warms up. The bike only has 1500 miles on it, I retimed the cams at about 400 miles and disabled the ACR. When retiming, I removed the CCT and *might* have reinstalled it incorrectly. The ticking was not present immediately after but did develop some time after. The ticking does not sound like rocks like some mentioned, but rather a bad exhaust leak or a very badly adjusted valve. It is most prevalent at 5000RPMs though. Bike performs awesome though! I already have a manual CCT on order from Krieger but I want to make sure I'm diagnosing the problem correctly. I'm very punctual on oil changes as well. If the CCT is bad, it's been bad for about 800 miles, which was at high RPMs, both on trail and commuting. Do I need a new cam chain? I'm guessing guides are fine. I am in an extended warranty as well.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Personal opinion, no your chain would be fine. My 650 had the first tensioner fail early, replacing it at 5000 miles. Such is life.

Make sure you are hearing cam drive noise. I have some piston slap, clicking, when I'm lugging down a bit under load. No problem, just noise.

Your chain should be fine at that mileage. Mine was just out of spec at somewhere around 10K miles, but apparently the PO had disregarded that clacking from early in the bike's life. Install the manual adjuster, and that should tell you right quick if that was the problem. That 5000 rpm point of "most noise" is the most common rpm range for most owners who had a failed or weak OEM tensioner.
