My '12 klx250s is nearing the 1st anniversary since purchase/delivery and of course I've been getting mailing's from Kawi on the extended warranty. I am generally not inclined to go that route and haven't with past auto/truck purchases. Just would like to know what you guys have done or how you feel about it, worthwhile or not. This is my first bike so I would value the experienced opinion. Currently have 4700+ miles in just under a year, no commute just pleasure, 60% gravel/trail- 40 pavement.

Like you I also received that letter . I didn't because of the mod I did which btw will make any warranty invalid .

 

I thought about it but didn't bother. No regrets. Would have been wasted money as nothing went wrong.

 

Did you buy an extended warranty for your toaster? Fridge? Vehicle? You make the call. I've saved a ton of money not buying extended warranties...so far.

 

I bout an extended warranty on mine, but mine was a different story... It saved me the cost of replacing everything from the connecting rod up.... twice....

 

If you're worried about it, take the bike in and pay for a valve check and a good once over. Then if something is not right, it'll get fixed(if you have a good shop).
I did that with my EX-500 20yrs ago, I ended up with a new top end for free.
I'm going to go 351 soon, so with that and some racing this summer, I don't think I would be covered anymore, so no point extending the warranty for the KLX, for me.
Kawi must make some change on the extended warranty, I've been getting a letter from them each month, starting at 6 months.

 

Curious...how much do they want for it?

I've never purchased a vehicle under warranty in my life...

 

1 yr - $308, 2 yrs - $363, 3 yrs - $462, and 4 yrs - $572.

 

Maybe I should buy a real dirt bike and the 4 yr coverage, and then just commute on this thing. Surely I'd use the warranty a couple of times averaging 10-13000 miles a year. Hmmmm. Might be worth it for the peace of mind.
Nah, I want the 351 anyway, I'll take my chances.

 

Some of the new appliances out on the market are absolute garbage... I've been going through appliance hell the last 2 years (2 new washers, 1 new dryer, 1 new stove, and even a computer board and inducer motor for my 5 yr old goodman furnace). I've made pretty good friends with the local appliance repair man, now I buy used appliances that are rebuild-able (only certain makes and certain years, they cost a lot even used, but their rebuild-able and that's why).

Agreed, most of the time it is a waste of money though, like the klx for instance, or any warranty that's usually sold separate from the manufacturer.
