Default Dual sport a KLX300 with KLX250 parts?

Hi All, I'm looking for a 2006 to 2007 KLX250 but I'm not having too much luck. There are several KLX300's in the area at very good prices.

I will want my KLX plated so (fairly easy to do here in Nevada, I plated my WR450) so I can definitely plate a KLX300.

My question: has anyone used KLX250 parts (harness, battery, instruments, ignition, switch gear) to plate a KLX300? I've searched here in the forum and on google but haven't found much.

Would it be fairly plug and play? I imagine the biggest issue might be the CDI box and maybe the rectifier? And pick up for the tach?

I really like the idea of using 100% factory parts to plate a KLX300 if I go that route. Complete harnesses, switch gear, gauges, etc can be found inexpensive on ebay.

Thanks,

Brian

I am sure it is do-able, but I'd think you would want a parts bike or at least be the first to pick at a 250S being parted out. If you were able to pull the entire harness and components from tail light to head light - I am sure it could be done. I would think that it would be more work than some aftermarket kits though. Considering that the ignition attaches to the triple clamp, the whole headlamps assy. and mounting parts, then you'd have e-start available which would require...
I am sure you can do it but I'd bet it would get pretty involved!

My $0.02!

I agree. It would be more work and $ then worth it. You can go to baja designs and get a pre-built and wired kit for about $500. 45 mins later your done.

Thanks guys. I've come to the same conclusion.

Plus, a baja design type kit is a bit less weight to boot.

I did the bare minimum with my KDX. Fold away mirror, banjo bolt pressure switch on the rear master cylinder wired to a led brake light. It is street legal only to connect trails. Keeps the weight and complexity low.
