Default cam timing specs

I have a 2007 and was trying to find out if the cam timing is different from the later models. Where can I locate or does anyone out there know this info? Trying to decide if I need/want to do the MCM. I just installed a bill blue carb and a fmf q4 slip on. If it matters the bike was originally from Texas. I do mostly off road fire road and tight single track.

The FSM is online in PDF, Google klx250s factory service manual, one of the first links. Save it to drive or print it out like I did.

Now it gets interesting:

Cam sprockets: 12046-0001 - same on the 07/09 KLX250 and on an 07 KLX300.

Intake cam: 12044-1327 - same on the 07/09 KLX250 and on an 07 KLX300

Exhaust cam:
  • 2007 KLX300 12044-1487
  • 2007 KLX250 12044-1365
  • 2009 KLX250 12044-0175
All different, but who knows, could be the KACR.

Clearly the intake would benefit, but not sure on the exhaust.

Thing is with the same sprockets, at least the timing on the intake has to be identical.

Thing is the timing arrived at by Marcelino matches up with a more normal cam timing, as Zombie Wolf once commented.

For what it takes to do it, I'd try it. The valves won't hit, about the only down side would be if it did nothing and you put it back the way it was.

I'm curious about that KLX300 cam - what's different and would it help the KLX250? I may have to go ebaying...

Thanks for the replies. I'll down load the manual, check that link, then bust into the motor The guy that I got the BB carb from couldn't get it to function properly until he retimed the intake cam. That was on a 2011 model. He said it felt like the slide was sticking.
I think that I'll set up the carb, ride the bike a bit then do the cam mod. I've already changed to many things at the same time.
Nuthin but fun !

The MCM does not require a carb recalibration.. If it carb'd correctly before, it will carb correctly after. Simple as that.

Get it correct with standard timing - Then add MCM and feel the power..

Once carb and then MCM is done, a few tweaks lets the MCM really shine..

Marcelino says right in his first post "Owners of carburates bikes may / will need rejetting the carb"

Yep, and Marcelino is correct.. Again, whether your 100% stock or running exhaust and a good carb setup, the MCM will not require a carb setup revamp and it will not cause your existing carb setup to falter - you'll just notice more power sooner in the RPM range..

However, for the power junkies, you can enhance the power the MCM offers if you revamp the carb setup for the new powerband.

Marcelino did his work on an efi bike not a carbureted model - thus his "may or may not" comment. He didn't know for sure.
