I don't know what differences are between US and Aussie version... but I can say the best changes I did would probably apply to you as well:
- Stiffer fork springs (re-valving is also recommended, I haven't done it yet). ~$100 USD for just springs. ~$100-150 USD for valving if you do it yourself I believe.
- Uncork exhaust. Either with an aftermarket muffler, or replacing with KLX300 header and muffler pipe. Latter is cheaper if you keep an eye on eBay and doesn't require repacking. Mine was ~$100 USD total but some people have found better deals than that.
- If it's carbureted, do the carb tuning! If you use silicon lubricant on the rubber manifolds holding carb in place, it's much easier to remove and re-install it! I've removed/reinstalled carb like 4 times now and now I can do it pretty damn quick.
- Desmogging! Mine was already done by PO, but I'd recommend it.
Probably my favorite mods are ones that improved comfort and protecting expensive parts.
That would be comfort:
fork springs (no more bad nose dive on front braking)
Wider foot pegs (~$60 USD, IMS brand)
Aftermarket bar risers/handlebars/grips (already done by PO, but perfect for my height).
Protection:
Skid plate
Barkbusters (mine are Acerbis I think)
Unabiker radiator guards
Acerbis aftemarket tank (also protects radiators)

Australia bikes have more aggressive cams and timing don't they? I thought I saw something here and in the service manual. If that's true that's one mod from the normal bikes you already have.
