Default Air suction valve block plate

I did some drawing and seeing what it would cost to make the block plate to replace the air suction reed valve and cap neatly - and at a low cost. Something that was low enough cost to make it worth doing.

Here is what I came up with:

It is .125" (3mm) stainless steel. No frills, brushed finish.

I don't know if the gaskets are damaged when the cover and reed are removed, so I figure do it with and without.

Without the gasket the part is $9.50, with with the gasket $12.00. Postage in the U.S. will likely be around a buck, to Canada it is $2.12 (already sent one there), for the rest of the world it would run maybe $3.00. It is sent in a common envelope and I'm not sure I even do a customs form. I don't believe we did with the one to Canada.

It is worth a ten spot or so to get a neat clean installation while avoiding sawing the darn thing out. I have two on the shelf, figuring one for my bike when I finally take it apart again to get to the valve. I figure the local hardware or car parts store has the plug for the carb and air box for a clean job. The mount bolts may need shortened or replaced with shorter ones, but that will be up to the rider to do the work or buy the bolts. The plan was to have the ability to throw the thing in an envelope and mail it on the cheap. Bolts would jack the shipping up due to needing a box or padded envelope.

I'm considering getting at least a few more cut out and figured I'd see if there was any interest here. If it was worth having some on the shelf. I may offer a combination with the tensioner, but that's another option.

Anyone interested, you can PM me or email if the forum allows it from my profile page?

I will soon have a quantity of these block plates available. I just set up to get 20 pieces. I am ordering gaskets, although I don't know if they need to be replaced.

If you don't have the time, tools, materials, skills, or just don't want to bother making the part, here it is.

As noted, the plate is only $9.50, gasket is $2.50. The postage is roughly $1.00 in the US, $2.12 to Canada, and about $3.00 to the rest of the world.

I have a few spoken for at this point.

Just received the block off plate. I should be able to get it installed before Christmas, I'll post some pictures when I do.

It replaces the reed valve and cover plate/fitting to clean up when removing the pollution system. No performance boost, just cleaner and saves a bit of weight when removing the stuff. It will cool the head pipe temperature a bit too, but again, no performance gain.

My gaskets did disintegrate as I removed the cap and reed valve assembly.

Now I just have to figure out if the bolts I removed can be re-used or if I need to find something shorter by a few mm in order to account for the removal of the reed valve.

I'll get some pictures off the camera tomorrow night.

Washers ... I'll just pick up 4 to 6 1/4" stainless washers and I should be good to go!
