Default Adjusting rear suspension preload

Is it OK to adjust the rear suspension preload using a drift and hammer on the adjustment and lock nuts, or must I take the shock and spring off as directed by the owners manual?

Thanks

yup...that works better then trying to use the special wrench...tap the top ring loose...tap to tighten or loosen the bottom ring...lock in the top ring after you are done...pretty simple..

The adjustment rings will move easier if the bike is on a stand.
