300 motor swap into an 09 KLX250sf
Motor locked up at 50 mph, luckily on a straight road. There were skid marks on the road and elsewhere......
Need a new motor, would prefer to just swap a used motor in, then maybe rebuild the original motor at my leisure with a BB kit. I don't have the time to split the cases and diagnose right now, the weather is beautiful and I want to get out and ride!
Will a 300 motor fit into this bike? Maybe a stator swap to get the correct wires out for an easy connect to the electrical system in the SF? Motor looks identical from the outside, but need to know if it's a direct swap. The 300 motors I've seen available are no more costly than the 250. I can kick start an XR600, so not overly concerned if the motor is kickstart only.
I did a search and found nothing in the first 5 or 6 pages of results for this, didn't see anything in the sticky's either...
Thanks for any advice!

Interesting thought. Lots of 300 top ends on KLX250's running around, mine included, but I'm not sure I can recall a straight KLX300 motor swap. I'm going to bet that the stators will interchange, but I couldn't guarantee it. A difference in some key part numbers wouldn't even necessarily indicate incompatibility. Still...I would just swap the key and damaged components between the two to keep things kosher. I'm pretty positive the cranks and all other likely "destroyed" parts will interchange.

Yep. If you can find a good KLX300 engine, I'd just look at this unfortunate incident as an opportunity to get more displacement and a kickstart backup...while retaining e-start.
