2012 KLX Plastics
Hi friends,
1. I am looking at buying a red 2012 KLX250s.
2. I dislike the red color and would like to swap for the green. Do any of you know how hard it is to swap the side panels, headlights, fender and back pieces? How much time am I looking at?
3. Will plastics from any year after the 2009 redesign fit my KLX? I like the 2009 green the best.
4. Is there a good source for used plastics or new OEM ones?
Thanks so much for your help!

LOL, yeah, good luck. My bike was red, took 2 years to find beat to crap, sun faded, super chaulky green shrouds. Everything else I bought new. OEM plastics are Very expensive. Forget ebay, I check a few times everyday for years now. Never saw plastics for 2009 or newer. I posted here and 2 other forums looking to trade red for green, and all I found was many others looking to do the same. Why Kawasaki even made red is beyond me.

I don't know why you'd want to change because everybody knows red is the fastest color Have you thought about painting your plastics Fusion for Plastic® - | Krylon

Yes, I would buy your red plastics, but I don't have any green to trade. Thanks xcrcarpenter for the mention.
Changing them out shouldn't take too long if you've done it before. The hardest part is going to be the rear piece behind the seat. The side panels have 3 8mm bolts each, the headlight shroud has one 8mm bolt on each side, and one underneath the headlight. The front fender is 4 8mm bolts, and that rear piece is 4 bolts in the pouch, assuming you want to put is on the new plastics you get, and then a couple bolts underneath.
Plastics from the 2009 models and up should fit no problem, the only thing I can find that they changed on different trim outfits was wheels and tires, i.e. s and sf models

A dealer had a red KLX when I bought mine and I'll admit the red was intriguing, but ultimately I bought the lime green (2012). Not putting down anyone's preference, but I've come around to believe that a Kawi was meant to be green?
(I am kidding, get what you like, I might own a red one if that dealer would have made the deal I wanted!)
