1999 klx 250
I have a 1999 klx250 and just ordered some motard rims to suit an 09 onwards klx250. I have heard of people puting 09 klx250sm wheels onto their 06 klx250s. So my question is are they going to fit? Im aware i will lose use of my speedo and possibly have to purchase a new front disc and adaptor.

My 09 appears to be running a set of KLX300 wheels front and rear. Not sure about the speedo drive deal, didn't pay any attention to it when changing tires. They are probably using what would appear to be a standard drive, but using a small rotor and magnetic pick up instead of a worm/sector gear set. (I think that's what they're called.)
I'm betting you're going to be fine. Kawasaki used that hub a bazillion times, the main difference being whether it was MX (no speedo machining) or enduro/dual sport (machined for speedo drive) and surface finish. They also might have had the same hub spec'ed out under multiple numbers too.

In comparison to my brother's 06 my spokes are definitely at least one gauge bigger front and rear. Fact is they're 8 gauge (4.0mm) and my KLX650 has 9 gauge (3.6mm) spokes and I am speculating that the KLX250s used 9 gauge too. I am guessing the wheels on my bike were probably KLX300 wheels, which might use the bigger gauge spoke, being an off road bike. That or I got a set that were relaced with bigger gauge spokes.
Also the wheels were likely from an earlier KLX300 because the rotors were the same style as those - no petal cut. The previous owner had two sets of rims and apparently sold off the original with the petal cut rotors.
The bike now has matching slotted rotors since I replaced the too small 220mm Galfer wave rotor with a 240mm KLX300 rotor.
Some clarification for the OP -
Odds are the hub will work fine. The rotor from your bike will bolt on fine. If you use a larger SM rotor you will need to make an adapter for the caliper to get it moved out to work with the large rotor.
If the hub has a speedo drive I'm betting it will work with either electronic or mechanical (cable) drive units. You will have to realize the SM tire is smaller so the speed will read significantly higher. There is a post here about an adapter that can alter the reading, but for the money I'd do one of those Vapor kits. Not much cost difference.

And I learn something... Makes me wonder what in the heck the PO did with the wheels and all. Doesn't much matter, since they work.
Still hub is same as on the 650 in general, as is the axle set up.

thanks guys seem the consensus is they will fit. The person who sold them to me as klx250 rims seems to think they will fit a factory klx450 which has a larger axle. However he told me the 09 klx has a larger axle and so the rims will not fit my pre 07 klx250 which is a lie since the axle and bearing part numbers seem to be the same for all years of klx250 after 96 and everyone here has confirmed it.
