Zomby, your bike should be running stronger, faster, and show over a 1hp increase from lids, snorkels, #128's etc... If it is not then your carb and my carb have significant differences in their setup / functioning. Mine is brand new from Kawi with the only mod being the DJ kit.

For instance, you would not be the first person to take a well functioning carb apart, put a new main jet and new clip position on it, put it back together to find it doesn't work anymore. Needle washers, plastic retainers, springs, diaphrams, float system, needle n seats, etc..

Is it possible your carb has a non-stock needle jet or a worn needle jet - either could enrichen the whole mid and upper range. If I remember my reading, CV carbs can wear out their needle jets...

At any rate , your bike should still be a little too lean, nowhere near too fat.

Of course, the lid on making it run better implies a significant lean-out situation.. Check'r all out Bro, find the problem, the benefits are worth the effort.

It definitely requires more investigation. I have an Innovate wide band setup that I might put on the bike to see where it is, but I agree, putting the lid on and running better would indicate a lean condition. Why it would be lean enough to run that poorly with all that jet doesn't make sense to me.

Strange that my 07 with less jet felt so strong, and to be perfectly honest, until I read this thread, I was going to run the DJ 125/128 and needle in the 3rd slot.

Does your bike have the backfire screen removed too? Stuff like that and the cam mod can significantly alter the carb signal.

I do still have the backfire screen. And I agree that the MCM will alter the signal - it seems that the MCM throws a greatly increased demand on the CV in the lower RPM range - starting just below 4k - and the CV , it appears, cannot keep up. This lower RPM lean-out costs TRQ and I will not stand for that. (Dyno testing a #134 and #136 main is coming soon.)

As far as MCM vs Standard Cam Timings - The standard cam timings with lid off and a good slip-on should respond better to a "fatter" AFR in the mid/ upper RPM ranges. ( The MCM tapers off TRQ sooner than stock cam timings.) While this is conjecture on my part, CC_Rider and a few others seem to confirm this..

If it were me, I'd figure I had a "senior" moment and installed the #112 instead of the #132...lol

You likely have something equally bad going on...

Yes your '07 did run great with less jet - so did/does my '12 with the #128.. It's just that they run much stronger when you get the AFR closer to correct for power production. And the 132/4n only takes us to 13.5:1( near sea level, slip-on, no lid)

I have one of these

It will be easier to rig this up than start fiddling with jets, so maybe later in the week if I have time.

I'm well aware of the senior moment and it's increased frequency lately, so I triple check everything.

I won't be surprised if the backfire screen removal totally throws a wrench in the tuning... but I won't be surprised if I'm wrong, either.

I've been a mechanic for 35 years. I'll figure it out

Yep, I know you'll figure it out..

I intend to remove my backfire screen, procure a #134 and #136, and dyno test.. Just as soon as I can get some time back home.
