Hello all,

I just picked up a basket-case 1993 KLX650R (A-1) that was in pieces and not running. I didn't know where else to post this since there is no KLX section here, but it is commonly lumped in with the KLR's even though it is a different bike with a different engine.

Well I put the pieces back together and shot a blast of carb cleaner into the throat and gave it some kicks, but it didn't even pop.

Compression is around 135psi, valve timing is correct, and I am getting spark.

Anybody got any ideas to help me get this thing on the road?

I would completely tear down the carb and if it looks even a bit cruddy I'd take the parts to a bike or car shop that has a real carb washer. They can get cleaner up into passages that sprays can't faze.

Other suggestion, join the KLX650 Group at Yahoo, lots of knowledge there. Also go to the ADVriders forum and look up the KLX650 riders UNITE! thread in Thumpers.

Those will get you the best results for the KLX. I know, I have a KLX650 and I'm a moderator at Yahoo. Yahoo isn't the easiest to work with, but a good search and it is pretty much nuts and bolts only, no social stuff.
