1990s KLF300 Bayou - not starting.
Hey guys,
New to this forum and new to quads/bikes too!
I have the above bayou which I'm having trouble starting off the switch and the pull.
Head was re-conditioned about 2.5 years ago or so and the bike was running real nice. It's been stood for best part of 2 years unfortunately.
I've replaced the fuel, spark plug and battery. There's plenty of spark and compression and it seems fuel is getting through. However, she'll spin off the electric start, lights all work etc, but just won't turn over.
Where should I go next fellas? Is it the carb maybe?
Thanks in advance for any pointers!
Si.

If its been sitting for 2 years, definately need to rebuild the carb, I'd change the oil too and flush all fluids before I started it. But gunk in the carb is usually the culprit, let us know if it still doesnt start.

Thanks for that fella.
I managed to get it to start yesterday evening - I opened up the bleed valve on the side of the carb to see if fuel was running through the and it eventually came out the bottom hose.
The problem I now have, is that the bike fires, and then sits on what sounds like full choke/throttle? Thumbing the choke itself doesn't make a difference to the idle - in fact, the choke cable on the carb itself came out rather easily when I was inspecting it and won't seem to screw back in?
Could the choke be 'stuck on' or have I messed with the fueling now in the carb bowl by purging it with the release valve?
I'm not sure on rebuilding the carb either - is it difficult to do for an amateur?
Hmm.

As mentioned, just pull the carb, clean and inspect while everything is on your work bench. Easy stuff. Take pictures, keep your self organized, keep things clean and check your adjustments. ie float height, number of a/f screw turns. Don't frustrate yourself with a gummed up 2 yr sitting carb. Inspect and clean any pre-screens and replace any filters.
