Default 13T sprocket

hey guys i got a 04kfx400. i was thinkin about gettin a 13Teeth sprocket, but i wanna make sure of a few things. if i get the 13T sprocket i dont NEED a new chain correct? i know my top end will suffer but i dont do top end that much. im just lookin for a lil more pick-up. im plannin on gettin a Muzzy exhaust (full or s/o not sure yet), k&n filter, and a dyno-jet jet kit stage 1 or 2 as far as performance mods go along with the 13T sprocket. stock is 14T right? i dont really wanna get into the internal stuff like hotcams, piston, etc. so if you guys could inform me with what i should look out for what i should n shouldnt do it would be very helpful. thanks for ur time...

Later, Kyle

Hey man....

I am not sure of the stock tooth... On an old 400 I used to have, I changed the front down a tooth, ( to start with ) and left the rear alone, and used the stock chain with no problems.

Top will actually not suffer that bad. It only made about a 5 mph difference. With a friend of mine riding behind me, I still hit 67 mph after the gear change.

If you are going to do full exhaust, then definately a Dyno jet kit, and air filter.

The biggest acceleration mod you can make, IMO, are the sprockets. One tooth down in front ended up not being enough for me, so changed the rear also. I usually only had enough money/ time to do one mod at a time ya know, and the sprocket made the biggest difference of all of them.

GL man..

Yes, stock is a 14T

I've been down, up and all over the place, really depends on what type of riding you do.

Like said above, it will definetly give you some more pep, although that exhaust and a rejet will probably be more noticeable.
