Mule/FD620D Fuel Pump
Anyone have any experience with replacing a fuel pump for a Kaw FD620D-S20 Engine? Not really just replacing physuically but replacing with a more econimical pump. The part number i get is 49040-2065 with a cost of $125!! Looking for any information on psi that i could use for an aftermarket replacement.
Thanks,
Kevin

RE: Mule/FD620D Fuel Pump
Kevin,
The pump is costly up front, but not going OEM will cost you head aches in the future. The automotive pumps low pressure high volume don't go low enough for the mule. The pump will override the float needle causing you flooding and even poor engine running problems. Worest case, the extra fuel will pass the rings and dilute the oil and cause rod failure, crankshaft bearing failure on the drive side or crankcase cover failure which has no bearing at all. $125.00 will seem like a small price at that time. We see this ocasionally at our shop. New engine cost $1670.03.
Hope this helps although it doesn't make you feel better,
Jody

Alternate Part Number: EP7200 the first number is to a air tech brand they work fine the second is a carter which I prefer both will work on mule with very little fabrication and cost 52.00 great compared to the stock pump. You can get a points kit off eBay for these pumps but you can buy whole pump from autozone orielys or abc for what the kit cost. Normally I just put the new points off new pump on my old one to keep it stock then I have a spare pump these pumps last forever but sadly the points don't. Hope this helps.
