Default Fuel level sensor on 2000 900 STX

Gauge was working fine. After using up almost all of the fuel gauge said it was low (like it should). Refilled tank to top. Now showing only 2 bars.

Based on other posts, that seems to be a sign that the fuel level switch is bad. Can anyone confirm? Also, anyone know a good place to buy one if that is indeed what I need?

Thanks!

Could be the switch, but it could also be a stuck float. you may need to pull the sending unit to check for proper operation.

Welcome to KF!

Thanks! Do I have to loosen the fuel tank to get the sending unit out?

Cant help you there, all I know is that we are talking about a jet ski. If you can find a parts diagram or a manual we should be able to figure it out. Once you get it loose you should have a float on an arm you can move up or down to check the gauge unless they started putting new fangled gauges in there, in which case you know more than me, lol

Come to think of it there doesn't appear to be a float as seen in the attached picture...

I have dealt with a persistent stuck float on my car. Looks like this is a different method for sensing fuel. I guess I will look for a replacement and a guide for the jet ski.

Thanks again for your help!

Odd looking device, could have individual floats for each bar. I'd pull it out and mess around with it to see if you can get it to work, but you may be stuck buying a new one.

Prom,
It was exactly as you said. Pulled sending unit out and it had several floats. One had become stuck with gunk. Cleaned it up and it is working again. Thanks for your help!
