I will be changing my clutch soon and was looking for any info or advice. I am not stoopid- I just havent worked on many bikes and dont want to get in over my head. Any help will be needed and appreciated!

 

Shouldn't be hard. I just changed mine on my ZRX with no problems. I don't believe the motors are that different.

Make sure you have ordered everything from your dealer / parts guy before you start. I don't know how many miles you have, but I changed everything. I had 52k when I did it. I replaced fibers, steels, springs, everything. Have it all ready to go. New gaskets, some gasket remover because old gaskets are a bitch to get off.

Soak the new fibers in oil for about an hour before you install them. Makes for easier break in. Torque all bolts to proper specs.
Enjoy the new clutch. It makes a big difference.

hey kevin are all the parts you listed the ones from the picture? How long did it take and what was the cost please.

On a scale of 1-10 how hard would you rate it?

I'm a little confused by p/n 13089-1004 and 1067. They are the steels but it doesn't tell me how many. It should be 7, seeing how there is 8 frictions. May want to check with a mechanic or maybe someone here will know.

My total cost was about $250.00. That was with next day shipping also. The guy I get my parts from gets them cheaper than the dealership. That's all the frictions, steels, springs, and gaskets I needed. Took me a couple hours or so. It was very easy to do.
A scale of 1-10, 10 the easiest, I give it a 10. The hardest part was scraping the old gasket off.

I'm not a mechanic. I don't feel comfortable tearing into a motor because I don't know much about them. But this and adjusting my valves were pretty easy.

 

Thanks, I found a kit for $125, the pic looked like about 13 plates and five springs. I looked at my buddies fireblade manual and it didnt look too hard. I have only put about 500 miles on the bike since buying it. The other day when winding out second gear, my rpm's jumped from like 8900 to 10000 VERY fast, it felt like a clutch slip. It has done this one more time under the same conditions, but now people are telling me its not the clutch because even though thats where the peak horsepower is (high rpm's), it should slip lower on the revs where there is more load on the motor. What do you guys think.

 

Thanks bro, I just need to quit worrying about it and just do it. The valves real has me worried it looks complicated. Just need to quit being a p%ssy about it. lol

pimp; when your r's rose quickly from 8.9 to 10k were you also increasing speed at the same time or did just the r's go up with no speed increase.
My bike rockets above 8k and 10-12 is just plain cranking, there is a noticeable pull from 9 to 10k but it takes only Â― second to do it.

 

the bike did not lunge, speed did not increase, im pretty sure it was a slip. Im riding to the mountains this weekend, I should know for sure if I have a problem or not after that.

 

how did your clutch replacement go? we areabout to replace the clutch plates pretty soon on my 98 7RR motor.
