Problems starting (starter wont engage)
Hey all, I tried a search, but didnt find anything really relevant.
Just got a 2001 500r, and, while it started fine all the times I tried it, it decided not to start intermitently.
I would guess its related to the sidestand, as, trying to troubleshoot it, I could always start it up if I kill-switched it, but if I dropped the sidestand while in 1st, it took a while to start again: nothing at all coming from the starter, and then, after a few minutes of fustrating tries, the starter kicks in. It doesnt happen ALL the time, but enough to make it really frustrating.
Any tips? If I were to bybass and short the sidestand switch: where to do it? In the small connector hidden by the chain guard?

Yup. I had similar prob on my 10, and I bypassed the sidestand switch. Voila! lol.....
Just jump the two wires down there, and make sure you waterproof them. Easy. GL man.

Assuming I;m not the most versed in electrical hacking :-D , do you disconnect the switch at the connector hidden behind the chain gard, and then simplyshort them together?
Thanks!

you say while in first? this requires two things, one pull in the clutch, the clutch has an kill switch in circuit, when its in gear, and if in neutral the neutral switch bypasses the clutch switch, so your describing several different places all at once, put the side stand down and leave it in neutral does this work?
next side stand or not put it in first and pull in the clutch does this work?
then i would consider the side stand switch
