I have a slight oil leak in the upper end gasket--1997 1500 classic
Advice on using a "STOP LEAK"
Also, can synthetic oil be used?
bEEN READING THE FORUM HERE, ON OIL OVERFILL. I had changed at dealer and I feel he overfilled it. I noticed my recipt and it stated 4 qts. I beleive that is 1 to many. (filter changed) anyway, a month later these small leaks started. Could this had an effect on seals and gaskets. The leak is comming from the top end fromt, underneath the crome cover.

Is it still over full? Does your bike have a breather that the oil could be coming out of?

 

Corrected the oil level. Not sure about the breather. I will have to check that. Thank you for the response.

 

no problem, wish I had more specific advise. I'm not familiar with your bike, so it could be a common thing with an easy fix, or a 'problem' that'll involve more complex repair. Did the leaks continue after the oil level was corrected?

Oh, as for stop leak, I'd stay away...it treats the symptom not the problem, and only temporarily.
