Smile KLX 250S 2015 - little more power needed

Ok, Ive got a new bike. Its run in and will cruise along comfortably about 62mph top speed (if I try to accelerate further it starts a weird kind of pulsing to let me know its not happy).

To keep up with the flow of traffic on the dual carriage ways, Id like to see if I can increase the speed (by using easy mods) up to a bit nearer to 70mph? This will help me feel safer by decreasing the possibility of cars ramming into the back of me on the motorway (where Im going just that little bit slower than everyone else!)

I've already disconnected the clutch switch doo dah, but that didn't seem to make much difference.

I'm not very confident with mechanics, but, I've read that removing the air box snorkel can increase speed a bit.

Please could someone let me know if this is an ok mod to do to a 2015 model bike and will there be any negative effects if I do this?

Ive also read that its better to replace the present snorkel with a snorkel from a KDX 220...is this correct, for my 2015 model?

I wouldn't even like to attempt changing sprockets and the like. I'm using the bike mostly on the road, with just a little occasional off road.

Thanks for responses gents.

If you aren't going off road much or doing flatter easy stuff change to a 15 T counter shaft sprocket to pick up the top end a bit. I actually ran a 15/39, bike cruised fairly well at 70, didn't shift to sixth until over 50 mph.

Where are you that you have a 2015? Wouldn't it be EFI? if so, you can still do the Marcelino timing mod, but obviously carb stuff is out. If it does have the carb then here are possibilities.

Kawasaki cheap mods link in my signature will give information that has been established since around 2007, about $100 in Kaw parts and someone who can do the carb work and you're doing fine. Another is the Marcelino cam timing mod that is also linked there. Best gains for the money.

If you do the DynoJet stuff KLXter has the knowledge there.
