higher octane for better gas mileage?
will a higher octane gas give you better gas mileage?
i ask the question because i recentlly filled my tank, and by mistake chose a low grade octane (87) by the time i realized my mistake the tank was full. ughhhh! NEVER PUT CHEAP GAS IN YOUR ZX_R. runs like crap and sounds hella bad too. not to mention it isnt good for your scooter.
any way i only got about a hundred and twentythree miles before the reserve came on. i thought it would be more like around a hundred and fifty up to the reserve tank. so does octane have anything to do with better gas mileage? sorry if it sounds stupid, i just dont know.
thanks

im not sure if motorcycles have a knock sensor or not, but in a car it will give you a bit better milage, and more power due to the fact that the computer can advance the timing further till it knocks, im not sure if bikes are the same way tho, ive been running 87 in my bike for like maybe a hundred miles, and i noticed the same thing, what do you usually run? 91?

hey trav, definately run the highest octane you can. you will immediately notice the difference. sounds a lot better too. plus more power is always nice...
I've been reading my manual for the bike and it says to only use an octane rating of 90 or higher. otherwise it will run really crappy basically. I accidentaly filled mine with 87. (wasn'tnot looking at the button i was pushing.)
All the specs and testing done on these babies was done with fuel with a 95 octane rating.
I have yet to find a gas station with a rating more than 91.

I beleave it does cause it burns better.. I run a mix of 1/3 110 and 2/3 95
the reason you went throught the cheep gas so much is cause you were on the throttle harder to get it going for what your use to..

i dont know about all your bikes but mine has a sticker on the gas tank that specifically states not to use anything less than 90 octane or it will cause severe motor damage. (hope i spelled that right)
