Default How Time 1981 KZ250CSR

I recently became owner of old 81 Kawasaki my daughter found in shed when she bought cabin in Mtns. I have already bought starter solenoid, voltage regulater, and cleaned carburetor and redone gas tank. I also had to replace a wire between regulator and starter solenoid that previous owner caused by putting aluminum foil around fuse that had blown and toasted wire. I am waiting on battery and new seat to be delivered but in meantime I used a car battery I had laying around and got bike running. When I shut bike off there is backfire which I figure is due to being out of time or does anyone else have an idea of cause. I tried searching for posts on this topic but found none. Can anyone steer me in the right direction.

Default Timing 1981 KZ250CSR

So out of 60 people who have vistited this thread, no one knows if you can or how to time this type of motorcycle. That's odd.

What did you find when you checked the timing? How many miles and how did the valve check look?
