Ninja 650R reliability?

Default Ninja 650R reliability?

Looking at a 2007 with around 11,000 miles, appears to be in great condition tires chain etc, but has some scratches...


What is the long term reliability like on these bikes?

Common problem areas?

Is this low mileage for this type of bike?

Mr. P i've seen bikes upward to 45,000 on them and still running strong. Not to sure on the 650r. It doesn't sound like to bad of a deal. i bet most of the miles on it are highway miles being out there in cali. check out KBB and see what the bike should list for before you buy it.

It blue books for around 3400$ I think, most are for sale around that price range so might be a decent deal.

Wish I knew someone who had 40k on theres much like the sv650's I know they are rock solid, hope the 650r is as good or better.

wish i could help out more mr p i just don't have the expertise on the 650r. I ride a zx6r and haven't had any problems with it yet. just want you to know that kawasaki's have a pretty loud valves in them so don't worry to much about that if you go and check it out and hear it run.

We've never had one come back in the shop for repairs other than maintenance. We've sold a handful of them and never seen any of the back for major stuff. Kawi can make a great bike. I've seen old Voyagers with almost 100k on them. It all depends on how the previous owner took care of it. My 05 636r that I bought brand new had well over 24k on it when i sold it. I adjusted the valves ONCE and they were barely off. Regular oil changes, slapped a K&N in it, kept the tires aired up and kept chain lubed. Had stock sprockets that still had life in them too. The stock tires lasted 3/4 of the time I had that bike. And I raced the crap out of it. 10 sec drag race runs at heartland park and KCIR, and a handful of track days. I would trust ANY bike Kawi has. Thats all I have ever ran and will always buy their stuff. Of course we own a kawi dealership so I know how their stuff compares to the other junk thats out there hehe. I wouldnt get a kawi logo tattood on me if i didnt trust their stuff hehe.

I would not ring the 650's rpm limit much. I am only going off of my 500 engine for a comment. Not sure if the oiling system, the crank was changed much between the two models. I love my wifes 500 for street long distance rides though. That thing should rock you a 2000 mile weekend with no issues. well,,,,maybe a sore ***

The 650 uses the parallel twin, same design as the 500 which hasn't changed since 1984, its solid. 11k can be high milage for some bikes since casual riders rarely get out that much. Don't pay so much attention to the odometer, always examine the rider. Is he the kind of person who would perform regular maintenance and always keep his machine in top condition, or did he just wash it cause he knew you were coming by? If you take care of them they will last forever, sounds like a good deal to me. Better post some pics when you get her home!

(Are they "scratches" or is it road rash?) Double check the steering stops on the headstock. See if the forks are straight, as well as the tire alignment. A well maintained 2007 should look and ride like new. Prom makes an excellent point^ about sizing-up the current owner. Take someone with you who knows bikes but is not glassy-eyed at the prospect of a new ride.

fiche of the lower and top ends of the ER and of the EX500 (a gpz, older zx engine with the outer cylinders cut off for the EX500??)

Notice that the EX has a center driven cam while the ER follows what the EX250 uses with the cam driven on the right side.

but any maintenance is key, And any wear points/issues should be taken into consideration as mentioned. I have seen a couple of these rides tracked out. Looked like a dependable ride for sure. Just not the fastest out there.
