I recently purchased a 2008 Ninja 650R with around 1550 miles on it. I wasn't sure of the condition of the oil so I changed it to 10-40 Mobil One Synthetic motorcycle formula. I have right at 2700 miles on it now.

My problem is that I seem to be losing oil now. I don't have any leaks. The motor is clean with no wet spots at all. I don't have any oil residue on around the exhaust or in the pipe. Am I burning oil? Any help with this would be awesome.

 

If it's not leaking its likely burning. Those are about the only two options, unless gremlins are stealing it during the night. You may not see any residue on the exhaust for light burning. How much have you gone through?

 

At least a half qt this week.

 

Lots of miles at high rpm? I don't know your bike, but on some high revving can burn through the oil normally.

I've heard anecdotal stories of switching to synthetic and then going through more than before. I have NO idea if there's much truth to it or if this could be something affecting your ride.
