Default Another 800 Valve Adj. Question

So Im looking over the pics on how to do the valve adj and I got a couple questions for those who have performed this...From the looks of it, the shims are on TOP of the valve stem and are only held in place with the spring tension from the rocker arm. Is this asumption correct? I do not see anywhere in the readings where the valve keepers/springs etc.. are ever removed.

Also, I assume one must remove the shim, then check clearance with the feeler gage to find the correct shim fit. At the proper stroke of course. I have done valves but never on e bike engine. TIA for input

The shim is on top of the stem yes, it is held in place by the valve spring pressure. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearances between the rocker and the shim while in place. Then refer to your valve clearance chart in your manual. The rocker slides out of place for shim removal and installation.
