Default 06 Nomad Chatter

I have an 06 Nomad. I bought it new, rode my 600 miles had the check up. I now have 4000 on the bike and will be taking it in for its 4000 check up. My questions is this: when I ride everything is great except when I really get on it some. When I roll the throtle quickly to pick up quick speed I hear a chatter from the engine like you do when you use cheap gas. I put high test gas in my bike so it should not be the gas. Any suggestions? I would like to have some thoughts before I take the bike to the dealer. This happens in any gear at any speed. Jump on the throttle and it chatters.
Thanks

I've got an 07 nomad and wasn't getting the power that my 01 1500 had. I just turned 10,000 and it's running smooth and STRONG. Just hang in untio nine or ten ks and you'll love it.

Sounds like your running lean--you may need to try the resistor trick. I've read reports from a lot of owners that have the same problem out the the box. Did you make any mods? You might try to get info from another forum. www.kawanow.org

I have about 2500 miles on my 2007 Nomad 1600 and I have the same noise that you describe. Roll on the throttle in any gear and there is engine chatter/rattle once it is over about 3000 rpm (I have a tach). I also have a bit of backfiring when you release the throttle. I also run premium gas. I tookthe biketo the dealer and they took it for a test run. They told me that the chatter and backfiring is not a serious problem. They figure the bike is running a bit rich, which is the cause of the backfiring. They explained that the ECU is mapped atsea level and that because I ride at about 3500 feet elevation, the bike will run rich. I don't know if I buy this explanation or not. They said to just keep riding the bike, it's nothing to worry about. I don't know if they were just trying to get rid of me so they do not have to do the warranty work, or not. Anyway, I don't think a brand new bike should have chatter and backfiring. I have decided to put on a couple thousand more miles to see if it gets any better or worse and then take it back to the dealer. Is there anyone else out there that has experienced the chatter noise and mild backfiring? What caused the problem and how did you fix it?

Thanks alot!

The dealer is full of $%^!!! The manufacturer is aware of this specific problem which is early detonation. However, they have not to date announced a recall because not all of these same bike models have the problem. The dealers are Kawasaki's eyes and ears, and therefore rely of the dealers recommendation of putting some carbon treatment in your bike. I refrained from doing this and decided to take a better route, although very costly, and that is high performance parts, exhaust system, air intake, and PC command module. The dealer and manufacturer do not wish to absord this cost and therefore will not recall. Also, be advised that there is another problem with the Nomad, and that is the gas tank can possibly develop a stress fracture at base causing fuel to leak over the wiring harness and battery! The manufacturer will repair this for warranted bikes. Hope this helps. Happy New Year!
