Default vn1500 idle problem...

Hey there,

I'm looking for any pointers on a problem with idle on a
2001 VN1500 FI Nomad
stock air
cobra pipes are the only mods on this bike
68,000 km
new plugs
new Air filer
ran seafoam throught it
ran Throttle Body Cleaner in it too!

replace TPS (as per dealers suggestion)

Bike ran fine for about 500 or 600 km then started to stall when you come to stops at lights you have to keep the revs up or it will quit on you...
This is what the bike was doing before i change the TPS.

I'm not sure what to do next...

Any suggestions would be great!
I'm not much of a wrench puller but I'm trying!

Thanks and cheers!

My bike was runing like crap when I put it in my garage. I couldn't keeping it runing at idle so after it stalled again for the fouth time in the garage, I put it on the kickstand went over to my tool box grab the longest screwdriver that I have, my flashlight, went back to the bike started it kept the revs up so that it ran located the TPS and the wires coming out at the connect top took the screwdriver and moved the wires rev's came up and the bike idle... sweet!

I drove it to work today with no problems idle was great with no stalls at the stoplights, sounds good and preform as good as new.
So this weekend I'll take it apart and see if I can find the BAD wire... I move the blue and the yellow wires so I think it is one of them.

I hope to find the problem wire somewhere in that few inches from the top of the connector to where those wires connect into the main cable at the branch about 6 to 8 iches away...

I will post back my findings!

Well I had some time today to spend with my bike...

Removed the gas tank so I could get a good look at the wires running to the TPS, and the first thing I noticed was the Brown wire was cut almost all the way through about a cm from the TSP connector so I'm thinking this could be my problem.

So I will try to fix this by soldering it back together and then tape the crap out of it...

But before i do that I'm going to check the other wires between the TSP and ECU

Cheers J

so, if I am looking at the schematic correctly, the brown is the ground. A bad ground will cause issues for sure. Congrats on the find/repair.
