Angry Help 99 1500 classic oil light on

Hi,
I have a 99 1500 classic. Was taking it down for inspection, first ride of the year, and oil light came on, also engine started knocking. Got to garage ( only 3 miles) did inspection and mechanic said we should try changing oil filter. We did that....nothing. only 200 miles on last oil and filter change. This was an auto shop not a motorcycle shop.

Changed oil, cleaned strainer, which was not even dirty. Light still on.

Bike has 35k on it, has been well maintained .
Is this a bad pump ?? Pressure sensor ?? Where is the pump if it's bad ??

Any help is appreciated !!!
Jim

If it's knocking it's not the sensor, I'd suggest oil pump or a blockage somewhere. No clue where it is sorry.

It could be the POG Plastic oil gear. On the 99s the oil pump drive gear is plastic. There is a fix if you didnt screw up the motor.
Judges oil gear look it up on the net
