My clutches began to slip real bad so I replaced the clutches and plates and put a barnet clutch spring in and I still have slipping. Does any one out there know what else could be causeing the slipping? The bike I have is a 03 nomad 1500.

I'm having the same problem with my 01 classic 1500 fi. I'll be checking to see if you get an answer.

I have heard that the mean streak clutch might work better than stock. I dont know if it fits or not. Anybody?

 

Hope this gets a good answer, because my 2000 classic fi is slipping now in the higher gears when cold. The biggest problem I have is when I put it in gear, and it acts like I don't have the clutch lever in, and so it kills the engine. I can start it in gear with the clutch lever in and it will go forward like I don't have any clutch at all. Embarrassing to say the least. Is this a common problem?

 

From what i've heard and read this is a common problem with the 1500's. i've also heard the thunder clutch fixes the problem, i've ordered one. you need to buy an aditional clutch spring and use your old one, i just purchased two new ones. my clutch has been on order for a few months now, i talked to a guy and thunder and he said hes still waiting on cores to come in, and i could send mine in and he could have it machined in about a day, but weather like this in wisconsin doesnt stick around for long, so i'm just going to wait, mine isnt that bad yet.

Sooo.......does the Thunder clutch work? Please let us know! Mine hasn't got any worse, but I've been taking it real easy. And that's hard to do sometimes!

 

Have you changed your oil recently?

Old oil 3000 - 5000km old can cause clutch slippage. Also if you changed your oil last time and put in oil with 'friction modifiers' in it that can cause clutch slippage as well. Best to change your oil first than spend big bucks on a clutch straight away.

Byjingo may be right. I have seen many a maching with clutch slippage useing the wrong oils. Years ago a mate hade a nice new Honda750 four. Put GTX in it and it turned into a monster. Same applies now, use good motorycycle oil.

 

i slowly started losing my upper gears. took it in to get looked at and they said the shift arm was slightly bent so it wasn't going all the way into the gears and ground them off. they replaced 2-5 gears and plus had to put in new cylinder cores because metal shavings scratched cylinders. luckily it was all under warranty.
